What is a Quartermania fundraiser?

A Quartermania (QM) fundraiser is a cross between an auction and a raffle where people ‘bid’ to win a product/prize of brand new goods donated from local businesses and various home business vendors participating in the event. Bids on these new items are from 1 to 4 quarters. There are usually between 40 and 60 items to auction during a QM.

When you come to QM, you register and pick up a paddle (or several)—each paddle’s number corresponds to numbered tokens used by the auctioneer. One paddle comes with admission and additional paddles are $5 each.

How the Quartermania auction works:

The QM auction begins when one of our vendors holds up a product and tells a little bit about the item’s highlights and how much the item is going for—between 1 and 4 quarters. If you would like to bid on that item, you put the corresponding number of quarters in the collection pot then hold up your paddle(s) and wait for your number to be called!

Once all the bids are in the auctioneer pulls a token—if your lucky paddle number is called and you HAVE placed a bid, you WIN that item—and for only 1 to 4 quarters.

If you didn’t bid you say, “no bid” and the auctioneer will re-shuffle the tokens and continue calling numbers until someone who has placed a bid—and is holding their paddle up—wins. It’s that simple, and a load of fun for a good cause, Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center’s mission to engage the community through creative programming.

In addition to the auctions, there are silent auctions, drawings and the vendors will have lots of specials and cash & carry items at their tables, including items for men.

Where does the money go?

Proceeds from ticket, silent auctions and paddle sales go to Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center’s mission to engage the community in exploring and celebrating our diverse heritage, culture and arts through creative programming. The quarters from auction items go to the respective vendors.
