Imperial Rome: Discovering The Ancient CivilizationOctober 13, 2007 - January 7, 2008 Explore the magnificence of Imperial Rome during its reign as the dominant political, economic and military power of the western world. The Muzeo is one of only three locations in the United States and the only location on the west coast to display this exhibition. Expose yourself to over 450 antiquities, and let these artifacts and programs provide the basis for your study of the ancient civilization of Rome. Following the close of the exhibition on January 7, 2008 the antiquities will be returned to a number of museums in Italy. Exhibition DetailTake a glimpse into life during the Roman Empire from 27 BC to the middle of the third century AD as you encounter objects related to elaborate banquets, Roman baths, religious beliefs, public ceremonies and powerful emperors. The exhibition is organized in four themes:Private Life - This section illustrates both the care and health of individuals through examples of clothing, jewelry, toiletries and housing. Religion - This section provides broad representation of the pantheon of gods and rites of the Roman religion. A series of bronzes embodying divinities and worshipers is included. Public Life - This section begins with an examination of images of the Imperial family; portraits, portrait statues, coins and incised gemstones. This section also illustrates another important part of life for the Roman citizen, the custom of frequenting the baths. Rome and the Empire - This section deals with military conquest and commercial traffic which were vital for Roman domination and cohesion of such culturally diverse territories.
