D. Hill is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work surveys identity through a cultural and gender lens. In this new performance work “Remove The Noose By All Means Necessary,” Hill reinterprets Malcolm X’s 1964 speech motto “freedom for the people by all means necessary”. Hill positions himself as a symbol of the unjust and seeks to remove the noose, demonstrating his hope for equality.

Viewers will experience self-portraiture imagery of representation from a distinctive and personal place. Either by constructing narratives or quasi- documentaries, Hill aims to create work that evokes a conversation about cultural and political differences. His work purposefully sets up a framework for conversations dealing with the intersections of race, gender, class and sexuality.

Hill’s work has been exhibited at venues such as: UC Riverside Culver Center and Sweeney Gallery (Riverside, CA), Lift Gallery (Greensboro, NC), Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (Santa Ana, CA), Offsite Gallery:Norfolk Arts (Norfolk VA), Brickell City Centre (Miami, FL), 57 Underground and dA Center for the Arts (Pomona, CA), City of Brea Art Gallery (Brea, CA), LA Phantom Galleries (Long Beach, CA), For Your Art Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), Francois Ghebaly Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), Grand Central Art Center (Santa Ana, CA) and Tarrant County College (Dallas, TX).
