Mela Hoyt-Heydon
Mela designs and produces period millinery for the entertainment industry. Her hats can be seen in the films Vanity Fair, Emma, Jefferson in Paris, Persuasion, North and South, the Aviator and most recently, Comanche Moon.
Locally she has created costumes for Disney, Princess and Sitmar Cruise Lines, The Globe Theater, Moonlight Amphitheatre, Beverly Hills Playhouse, Long Beach Playhouse, Stages, 3DTheatricals, and Westbeat. She has designed a variety of television commercials for Mattel, Worlds of Wonder, Quick and Crispy French Fries and McDonalds, including dancing Chicken McNuggets.
Mela is the Coordinator of the Theatre Arts Department at Fullerton College where she has been teaching and has also been resident costume designer for the last 30 years.
Mela is a member of The Costume Society of America and The United States Institute of Theatre Technology. She’s also a member of the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum’s team working on the Copp Family Textiles.
