Shifts: 10:30am – 5:30pm
Days: Tuesday – Saturday
Internship Duration: 6 Months
Position Summary:
The Education Specialist Internship position has two primary focuses: 1) the creation, implementation and management of educational programs both within the museum and externally as outreach at schools, festivals, events and other uses and 2) the oversight and management of the MUZEO docent and volunteer program. This position requires someone who is creative, a self starter, takes initiative, and ideally pursuing a career in art education.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
● Work with Outreach Specialist, market, book, and manage group tours.
● Give exhibition tours to the public, schools, or private parties.
● Work with contracted teachers, artists, and guest presenters.
● Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with all Anaheim School Districts, private Anaheim schools, Charter Schools, home schools, etc.
● With the Outreach Specialist and Exhibition Specialist, create public programming that aligns with and elevates the current exhibitions.
● Create hands-on educational programs for in-house, outreach and classroom experiences that align with MUZEO’s Mission.
● Create exhibition tours that are engaging, thoughtful, and inclusive and train docents on how to give tours to a standard of excellence.
● Create informational documents for each exhibition so that staff and docents have proper background notes, talking points, and context to assist guests.
● Lead MUZEO’s educational engagement, outreach, and community connection through thoughtful programs and events that are considerate of the diverse neighborhoods and communities MUZEO serves.
● Interview and hire volunteers and docents based on the staffing needs for the MUZEO Main Gallery, Carnegie building and outreach at events.
● Work with the Exhibition Specialist to train docents and volunteers on exhibition subject matter and ensure volunteers and docents have adequate training for each exhibit, program, or event.
● Communicate with volunteers and docents so they have proper notification of schedules, positions, and tasks as well as keeping volunteers and docents up to date and knowledgeable about MUZEO changes, programs and exhibits.
● Manage MUZEO staff at specific educational outreach and onsite events, ensuring staff members understand their role and the content of the educational program provided.
● Assist the Director of Operations to meet or exceed annual budgeted goals by the creation of educational programs and events that attract sponsors, grants and other donors and attract ticket sales.
● Work with Operations Coordinator to create marketing for educational programs and digital outreach.
● As necessary, work with private event clients as their event relates to educational programs and/or exhibits.
● Maintain a semi-permanent classroom and lecture space as well as organize pop-ups and outreach materials as needed. Maintain a stock of art and craft supplies.
● Understand and communicate educational programs needs and requirements for execution of such programs in a timely and efficient manner to the entire organization.
● Be available to staff private events, festivals and other programs as necessary.
● Be willing to work some weekends and holidays as the position requires.

● A proven track record of educational program creation.
● A passion for supporting the arts in communities and schools.
● Strong belief in the importance of MUZEO’S mission and its programs.
● Fondness for the role nonprofit organizations play in the community, especially museums and cultural centers.
● An interest in art, history, culture, nonprofits and/or customer service.
● The ability to work effectively with other staff members, volunteers, and patrons.
● Self-directed and comfortable taking initiative with minimum management oversight.
● Ability to be flexible and react quickly to change.
● Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for programs, events and exhibitions.
● Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal skills.
● Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
● Ability to work in a small nonprofit environment, wearing many hats and performing a variety of mission-related duties on a tight budget.
● Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
● Ability to lift 30lbs or more.
