Open Book: The Golden Age of Hollywood

Join host Maddie Margarita as she leads an inspiring conversation with Tinseltown historian, Pat Broeske, who will share her work and personal stories of making it in Hollywood.

Pat H. Broeske is a veteran journalist and co-author of biographies of Howard Hughes and Elvis Presley which enjoyed multiple editions. Her short fiction featuring Hollywood “fixer” Casey Cummings has been published by Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and Black Cat Weekly. She regularly covers the mystery-crime genre for MysteryScene.com, as both a reviewer and feature writer. A former Los Angeles Times staff writer, the SoCal native’s byline has appeared in diverse publications including the New York Times, the Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Emmy, Redbook, American Archaeology and various film journals. A specialist in coverage of pop culture and Tinseltown – including the much-frequented intersection of “Hollywood & crime” – Broeske got an up-close look at criminal justice during her tenure as a writer-producer of reality-based TV programs, some for Langley Productions of “COPS” fame. As a speaker for professional writers’ groups, she has focused her detective’s flashlight on topics including film noir, political thrillers and supernatural mystery-crime tales. On the board of Sisters in Crime OC, she is also a member of the SoCal chapter of Mystery Writers of America. She is on the faculty of Saddleback College Emeritus Institute, teaching classes in film, writing and literature.
