Now in person (and also recorded live @Muzeo), Poetic Voices is the perfect chance to immerse yourself in a different form of art. Moderated by Natalie Elaine, featuring Anaheim’s poet laureate , Camille Hernandez.
A poet laureate serves as the official poet for a city, county, state or nation and the tradition goes back centuries. In America, the precursor to our nation’s poet laureate today dates back to 1937.
As Anaheim’s third poet laureate and literary ambassador, Camille Hernandez’s role is to inspire the appreciation of poetry and the arts in the city. Camille is dedicated to fostering community connections through writing. A poet, essayist, and teaching artist, Camille affectionately identifies as a “public library girl.” She is passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to life-changing stories, diverse perspectives, writing tools to express their own narratives, and avenues for sharing their work with others. As a narrative poet, Camille crafts poetry that conveys wisdom and experiences from her life, family history, Black and Filipino cultures and her communities.
