Muzeo Museum & Cultural Center presents An Afternoon of Poetic Vision “the Encore” with Natalie Elaine & Friends. This intimate virtual poetry reading will include 7 illustrious poets.
Dolores Jenerson-Madden is a published poet with her poem, Struggling published in the Shooting Star Review, a non-profit organization whose mission was to explore the Black American experience through literature and art, published from 1987 to 1994. She earned an Honorable Mention in the Third Annual Orange County Employee Literary Contest. She networks with other writers in the California Writers Club, Orange County Branch, and Senior Writers classes sponsored by the North Orange County Continuing Education where she is writing her memoir. My first poetry book, entitled “Crying Out” under my pen name of Yolanda Susan will be available for sale on Amazon.com by October 31, 2020. It will be in paperback and e-book digital formats. In December 2020, an audiobook version will be available on Audible. As a retired university educator, she was awarded the Jewel Plummer Cobb CSUF President’s Award for Excellence in Multicultural Education. Creatively using her MFA in Digital Cinema, she directed and screened documentary films on domestic violence at regional Christian and secular film festivals. Her current working film project “From Pusher to Preacher” highlights the influence of a drug dealer turned prison chaplain on male and female prison inmates.
Andrea Brown is a Fort Grand Slam Champion who enjoys using her art to uplift, educate, and inspire. This Artist enjoys expressing herself through song, dance, and spoken word. Be sees art as not only entertainment but also an outlet for self- reflection and healing.
Ashley Wilkerson is an actress, poet, playwright, and activist and has appeared in an array of television, film, and theatrical productions. Her credits include Kim Hughes’s Sweetwater, where she starred as the resilient, Day Gray, and her award-winning solo show, Freckle In My Eye, which was most recently witnessed at BAM Fest in Austin, Texas. She has appeared in several commercials and print advertisements including Nike, Choice Hotels, Verizon, Subway, D Magazine, and Pepsi. She is also the author of a new book, Midnight Verses Morning Poems. Ms. Wilkerson has been recognized by the National Foundation of the Arts, the National Performance Network, and is a member of Alternate Roots.
Alejandra Ramos Gómez is a poet, writer, and bilingual educator born and raised in the border city of Juarez, Mexico. She is a 2020 Dallas Public Voices fellow of The OpEd Project and has published her work with Voces Writers, Chachalaca Review, NPR’s Latino USA, Ms. Magazine, and Better. In 2017, Alejandra delivered a TEDx talk about how poetry influenced her approach to education at TEDxKids@SMU. She is currently working on a bilingual poetry book to be released early next year.
Edyka Chilomé is an internationally praised Poet, writer, and cultural worker currently based south of the Arkikosa River on occupied Wichita, Caddo, Comanche, Hasani, Tankawa lands (Dallas, Texas). She is a queer indigenous mestiza child of migrant activists from occupied Zacateco (Zacatecas, Mexico) as well as Lenca (Morazan, El Salvador) territories and was raised in migrant justice movements grounded in the tradition of spiritual activism. Edyka is the author of “El Poemario del Colibrí / The Hummingbird Poems” (Deep Vellum Publishing, 2019) and has been asked to share her poetry and speak on multimedia platforms and spaces around the country including TEDx, NPR, The Lincoln Center in New York, and The American Family Therapy Academy.
Lady Brion is an award-winning poet, activist, educator, and organizer. Just recently, she became the 3rd ranked woman slam poet in the world. Her other championship titles include Southern Fried Poetry Slam, Rusbelt Poetry Slam, Baltimore Grand Slam, and The National Poetry Slam. She is the founder and executive director of Maryland’s first and only Black Arts District and the author of “With My Head Unbowed”.
Hosted by: Natalie Elaine is a Texas girl living in sunny southern California. She is devoted to making an impact through sharing her love of poetry, art, yoga, and meditation to the world. She is committed to living a life of truth and discovery with her writing. She encourages everyone to tap into their gifts and not be afraid to use them. She is currently working on a book of poetry and affirmations and plans to open a yoga studio by the Fall of 2021 that incorporates a literary experience for all levels to enjoy.
