Concrete Wave: 60 Years of Vans and the Culture Born on Broadway

Opens April 25, 2026

Local Motion celebrates the 60th anniversary of Vans as the anchor for exploring Anaheim’s pivotal role in shaping American youth culture, creativity, and innovation. From the Van Doren Rubber Company’s opening on Broadway in 1966 to the global phenomena of skateboarding, custom car culture, and entertainment, Anaheim has been a birthplace of counterculture movements that transformed how people express themselves. Through artifacts, archival photography, video documentation, and interactive elements, the exhibition reveals how Anaheim’s entrepreneurial spirit, creative risk-taking, and support of sub-cultures created ripples worldwide.
