Opens April 25, 2026
In 1966, Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren, Gordon Lee, and Serge D’Elia opened a small shoe factory at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim. They had no idea their grippy waffle-soled sneakers would become the uniform of a cultural revolution. Concrete Wave celebrates Vans’ 60th anniversary as the gateway to exploring Anaheim’s pivotal role in skateboarding, youth culture, and creative rebellion. From local skate parks to global phenomena, this is the story of how Anaheim innovation, entrepreneurial grit, and support for unconventional ideas created ripples worldwide. Featuring rare artifacts, legendary skateboard decks, and exhibit curator Craig Stecyk III’s iconic photography, the exhibition reveals a city that didn’t just tolerate creativity, but fueled it.
